O Leãozinho; Caetano Veloso

Caetano again!

Today he appears with a song in which the whistlings are doing the entire counterpoint to the melody played on acoustic guitar. While he declares his love for this such “leãozinho”, the whistlings give a peaceful and coastwise atmosphere which is being created during the song.

“O Leãozinho” was written for Caetano’s 1977 album named “Bicho”. Contrary to what many leftists expected for him, he wrote “innocent” and not politicized songs for this album. “O Leãozinho” is one of them. In a interview with Márcia Cezimbra from Jornal do Brasil, Veloso said that in that time he was going to do a show and has received a anonymous letter saying if he would sing this song, they was going to spank him!

Currently, “O Leãozinho” is one of the most successful songs of his career.

edit: Caetano wrotes this song inspired by his friend Dadi, a bassist. Dadi’s Zodiac sign is Leo and leãozinho means “little lion”. Also, look his mane in the picture below... *

Gosto muito de te ver, Leãozinho
Caminhando sob o sol
Gosto muito de você, Leãozinho

Para desentristecer, Leãozinho
O meu coração tão só
Basta eu encontrar você no caminho

Um filhote de leão, raio da manhã
Arrastando o meu olhar como um ímã
O meu coração é o sol pai de toda a cor
Quando ele lhe doura a pele ao léu

Gosto de te ver ao sol, Leãozinho
De te ver entrar no mar
Tua pele, tua luz, tua juba

Gosto de ficar ao sol, Leãozinho
De molhar minha juba
De estar perto de você e entrar numa

“dá um beijo nele que ele é lindo!”
