Seeing the statitics of Google's research that lead to my blog, I found that the majority of people who come here is looking for "songs with whistling from 2011". So I am seeking for these brand new songs. That was how I discovered the whistling song of today!
But it's not from 2011. Actually, my sources don't come to an agreement... Vevo's channel on YouTube states that the "Good Life" music video is from this year; Wikipedia's says that it was released in 2010; and on Amazon we can see the album was released in 2009. Well, let's stay with the last one.
AllMusic Guides explains the band's rising: "[Ryan] Tedder and Zach Filkins formed the band in 2002 and relocated to Los Angeles shortly thereafter, adding keyboardist Drew Brown, bassist/cellist Brent Kutzle, and drummer Eddie Fisher to the lineup in the process. OneRepublic then signed with Sony BMG's Columbia label in 2003". Also says "Later that year, OneRepublic stepped out on their own with Dreaming Out Loud, a debut album filled with piano-fueled songwriting and pop/rock melodies. The album quickly went gold, and 'Apologize' continued to top the singles charts in multiple countries. Another Tedder-penned track, Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love,' experienced similar success at the same time, thus making Tedder one of the year's most celebrated songwriters. OneRepublic began writing songs for a second album in 2008, and the group later decamped to Colorado Springs to avoid outside distractions. Although initially planned for a summer release, Waking Up wasn't completed until September 2009. 'All the Right Moves,' the album's lead single, was released to radio that same month, while the entire album followed in November."
About the song, we can find on SongFacts.com that "OneRepublic frontman and principal songwriter Ryan Tedder has penned a number of smash hits both for his band ('Apologize') and for other artists 'Bleeding Love'). In an interview with NPR about the art of songwriting, he discussed writing hooks and explained it didn't necessarily have to be the chorus like in the case of this song. Said Tedder: 'The hook can be the track itself. Like in Coldplay, 'Clocks' the hook was [hums the opening piano riff] — that was the hook. In [Black Eyed Peas'] 'Boom Boom Pow,' there is no hook. It is just one section after another of really catchy, infectious club music without any one section overriding the next.
"In the upcoming single, 'Good Life,' the real hook is the post hook — it's what comes after it. We have this REALLY super simple whistle. I hadn't heard a whistle in a song in forever and that's all I kept hearing on the song so I just whistled this melody into the mic and it really is the hook — it's the catchiest part of the song."

Woke up in London yesterday
Found myself in the city near Piccadilly
Don't really know how I got here
I got some pictures on my phone
New names and numbers that I don't know
Address to places like Abbey Road
Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want
We're young enough to say
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life
To my friends in New York, I say hello
My friends in L.A. they don't know
Where I've been for the past few years or so
Paris to China to Col-or-ado
Sometimes there's airplanes I can' t jump out
Sometimes there's bullshit that don't work now
We are god of stories but please tell me-e-e-e
What there is to complain about
When you're happy like a fool
Let it take you over
When everything is out
You gotta take it in
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life
Hopelessly
I feel like there might be something that I'll miss
Hopelessly
I feel like the window closes oh so quick
Hopelessly
I'm taking a mental picture of you now
'Cos hopelessly
The hope is we have so much to feel good about.
Oh this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life
