53rd & 3rd; Metallica

Duh... “53rd & 3rd” is by Ramones not Metallica! Yeah, I know. But only in the cover by Metallica there is a whistling.

As we know “53rd & 3rd” was composed by Dee Dee Ramone for their eponymous debut album from 1976. It seems to be that the lyrics is kind of autobiographical. Some say that Dee Dee really prostitute himself to purchase heroin. He never confirmed the rumor.

Anyway, Metallica recorded it for the project “We’re a Happy Family – Tribute to Ramones”. I found here that “actually Metallica recorded 4 Ramones cover songs and picked that one for the tribute album”; I’m even trying to find which were the other three songs covered by the band.

The fun here is hear both machos Lars Ulrich (bridge) and Hetfield (verses and chorus) singing that they were "standin' on the street (...) tryin' to turn a trick". =P

One Two Three Four

If you think you can, well come on man
I was a Green Beret in Viet Nam
No more of your fairy stories
'Cause I got my other worries.

53rd and 3rd
Standing on the street
53rd and 3rd
I'm tryin' to turn a trick
53rd and 3rd
You're the one they never pick
53rd and 3rd
Don't make you feel sick?

Then I took out my razor blade
Then I did what God forbade
Now the cops are after me
But I proved that I'm no sissy

53rd and 3rd
Standing on the street
53rd and 3rd
I'm tryin' to turn a trick
53rd and 3rd
You're the one they never pick
53rd and 3rd
Don't make you feel sick?

53rd and 3rd
come on man

53rd and 3rd
I'm a man baby

53rd and 3rd
your fairy stories

53rd and 3rd
have my other worries
